This is a long and relatively fast ride because there are fewer long hills than similar graded rides. It is both on roads with bike lanes but also single lane roads with no provision for bikes. You need to be confident and competent riding in this situation.
We ride via Vimiera Rd, then Brown's waterhole and Kissing Point Hill and continue to St Ives. Then along Mona Vale Rd, Forest Way, Warringah Rd followed by a fast descent then a long drag along The Wakehurst Parkway to Narrabeen. The back streets of Warriewood bring us to Bayview and along the waterfront to Church Point. From here we head inland and uphill for 10km to our regroup point at Terrey Hills.
With the major difficulty behind us we head back along Mona Vale Rd riding as a tight group with the back riders taking advantage of the windbreak. Through St Ives shops we take the lane then turn right down Pentecost St and through to Turramurra. After a careful descent down the steep Turramurra escarpment we travel via the Browns Waterhole path and back to Eastwood.
On this ride due to the higher speed it is an advantage to ride close to the rider ahead but must not overlap their wheel. You also need to be very careful about the rider who is behind you, pointing and naming hazards, signalling slowing and stopping and not braking heavily.
With few regroups this ride takes up to 4 hours to complete, and you should always take two water bottles and snacks in your pocket in addition to a few dollars for food and drink.
