An on-road hilly ride with some steep downhills through the Royal National Park to Thirroul from where we join mostly coastal shared paths though Wollongong to Kiama and the train home.
The main features are two outstanding lookouts at Otford Tops and Bald Hill Lookout, riding across the Seacliffe Bridge and riding shared paths alongside the ocean from Thirroul to Kiama.
We will encounter recreational traffic on weekends through the Nat Park so riders must be comfortable riding with traffic near to us. Care must be taken on the twisting downhills from Waterfall and Bald Hill, particularly in wet conditions.
Along the shared paths we ride carefully and single file to avoid pedestrians and oncoming riders many of whom may be children
The route from Bald Hill, 16km into the ride, to the finish, is well serviced with cafes and toilets
There is an option to join the ride at Thirroul thus missing out most of the hills and doing the ride almost entirely on shared paths
