Ride from Meadowbank to history laden Elizabeth Farm via the Parramatta Valley Cycleway and Alfred Street Bridge, with a 30 minute visit to Australia’s oldest homestead before returning to Meadowbank via the M4 cycleway.
Leaving Meadowbank Wharf at 9.30am, to ride the PVC. Cross Parramatta River via Alfred St bridge. Continue down Alfred St shared cycle path, turning left into Alice St, Rosehill. On the left is Elizabeth Farm. Free entry. Bike lock recommended. Opening hours Friday & Saturday 10am–4pm and during School holidays open 6 days (closed Sunday). Elizabeth Farm is Australia’s oldest homestead and is now an ‘access all areas’ museum . Built in 1793 for the young military couple John and Elizabeth Macarthur, it is set within a re-created 1830s garden. Veg garden worth discovering.
Leave Farm after a 30 min stay. Ride 8 mins to coffeee at 5 Loaves cafe, Alice St. After which return to Alfred St shared user path downhill towards the M4 cycleway to Homebush and onward back to Meadowbank Wharf. Allow 3 hours including ride briefing, regroups, the Elizabeth Farm visit, and coffee.
Route Hazards:
• Shared paths with pedestrians and dogs
• Narrow sections of the PVC
• Shared path at roundabouts along Alfred Street and on downhill sections approaching the M4 cycleway
• Potential loose debris on shared paths
• In hot weather, riders should carry adequate water.
Exit Points include:
• Parramatta station
• Homebush / Olympic Park station.
Riders may turn around at any point and retrace the route, but must inform the ride leader before leaving the ride.
