The new Ramp sees Bridge cycle trips jump.

Cycle trips across the Harbour Bridge in January have jumped by 64% from previous Januarys after the Ramp opening on 6 January.
Expect to see even more trips as everyone goes back to school and parents go back to work.

Staying cool when out for a ride.

Last week I mentioned wrapping a wet towel around your neck to keep yourself comfortably cool whist riding on a hot day.
Here is another method but the same principle of evaporative cooling applies.

Wetting a cycling cap and wearing it under the helmet can provide temporary relief from the heat through evaporation, a process where water draws heat from the body as it turns into vapor. Its effectiveness is highly dependent on ambient humidity levels and the hat's material.

Soak the hat in cool, clean water.
Wring out any excess water to avoid a dripping mess.
Put the hat on to receive the cooling benefits of evaporation.
Re-wet as needed when the cooling effect diminishes.

A wet hat is a great tool but should be combined with hydration, seeking shade, and proper clothing for overall heat safety.
